Why we will never show you an ad

How Kinnomy makes money, why advertising and a household app do not mix, and what we promise instead.

There are no ads in Kinnomy. Not on the free plan, not on the paid plans, not tucked into an email digest, not “sponsored suggestions” in your shopping list. There never will be. This is not a marketing line. It is how the business is built, and it is worth explaining why.

Kinnomy is paid for by the households that use it. That is the whole business model. There is a Free plan for up to two people, forever. Larger households, and households that want the full set of features, pay for Household or Household+. One subscription covers everyone in the home.

We do not sell data. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not use it to train AI models. We have one kind of customer, and it is you.

Think about what a household app knows. Who lives with you, and how old they are. When the kids have the dentist. What you spend on groceries and which bills you pay. When your lease ends. What medications someone takes. Where the spare key is.

That is some of the most personal information a person has. An advertising business would find it extremely valuable, because it describes your life in detail, and it would be tempted to use it. The pressure would not stop at showing ads. It would shape the product: nudging you to spend more time in the app, to share more, to click more. Those goals are not your goals.

A household app should help you spend less time on household admin, not more. It should keep your information private, not find new ways to use it. The simplest way to guarantee that is to remove the incentive entirely.

There is a well-worn saying that if you are not paying for a product, you are the product. It is not always true, but it is true often enough to be worth thinking about. When a service earns its money from advertisers, the advertisers are the customer, and your attention is what is being sold.

When a service earns its money from you, the incentives line up. We only do well if Kinnomy is worth paying for. That means making it genuinely useful, keeping it trustworthy, and respecting your time. It also means that if we ever stop being useful, you will stop paying us, and that is fair.

If subscriptions pay for everything, why give anything away? Because two people running a home together should be able to do it without paying, and because the best way to know whether Kinnomy suits your household is to use it. The Free plan covers the core: the calendar, tasks, chores, shopping lists, Talk, the Emergency card and Tell the house. It is not a trial and it does not run out.

Every new household also gets 30 days of Household+ free, with no card needed. When that ends, the household moves to Free and nothing is deleted.

  • No ads, on any plan, ever.
  • Your household data is never sold and never used for advertising.
  • Your household data is never used to train AI models, ours or anyone else’s.
  • Location is off by default, opt-in per person, keeps only the latest point and keeps no history.
  • You can export everything as JSON and CSV, or delete your household, at any time.

Will the free plan get ads one day?

No. The Free plan is paid for by the households that choose Household or Household+. That is the deal, and it does not change when a plan is free.

Do you sell “anonymized” data instead?

No. We do not sell household data in any form, whether it is labelled anonymized, aggregated or anything else. It is not a product, so there is nothing to sell.

What about sponsored suggestions?

There are none. When Tell the house suggests sunscreen for a beach day, it is because sunscreen is useful at the beach, not because someone paid for the word. The built-in suggestions are plain items, like water and snacks, with no stores or brands attached.

How do you pay for the AI features?

From subscriptions, like everything else. The built-in features cost nothing to run. Where an AI model is used, each household has a monthly allowance, and the whole service has a daily spending cap, so costs stay predictable without anyone looking for other ways to earn from your data.

Being paid by subscriptions does not make us perfect, and we would rather be straight with you about the limits. Kinnomy is not end-to-end encrypted: your data lives in our database, and documents are kept in a private folder served only to members of your household. It does not connect to banks. It does not have a native phone app yet. We say these things plainly on our privacy promise page, because a company that is paid by you should tell you the truth.

We will never show you an ad because our business depends on one thing: being worth paying for. That keeps us focused on making your household easier to run, and on keeping your information where it belongs, with your household.
