Getting started

Create your account, name your household, and do the five things that make the first week easy.

Kinnomy takes about a minute to set up, and a little longer to fill in. This guide covers the first ten minutes and the first week.

Go to Start free and enter your name, your email, a password and a name for your household, like “The Rivera home”. You can change the household name later.

Every new household starts with 30 days of Household+ free, with no card needed. When the 30 days end, your household moves to the Free plan. Nothing is deleted: paid modules become read-only until someone upgrades.

After you create your account you are signed in and taken to the app, where your household is waiting with the name you chose.

  1. Add the people. Open People and invite the adults and teens by email link or with your household’s 6-character join code. Add young children and grandparents as profiles without a login. See Inviting your household.
  2. Tell the house this week’s plan. Type a sentence like “Soccer practice Thursday at 5:30pm, Sarah needs to bring snacks” and review the plan it drafts. Nothing is saved until you press Save. See Tell the house.
  3. Fill in the Emergency card. Your address, emergency contacts, each person’s medical notes, insurance policy numbers, utility shutoffs and pets. It prints on one page and it is free on every plan.
  4. Add the bills. In Money, add each repeating bill with its amount, due date, who pays and how it splits. When one is paid, tap Mark paid and the next one is scheduled. See Bills and splits.
  5. Start the household memory. Add the wifi password and the water shutoff as notes, and your plumber and doctor as contacts. The household checklist lists 40 things worth writing down.

Kinnomy runs in your browser, on phones and desktops. On a phone you can add it to your home screen so it opens like an app: use your browser’s share or menu button and choose the option to add to the home screen. There is no native iPhone or Android app yet.

The app comes in a light theme and a dark theme. This website does too: use the sun and moon button at the top of any page (on a phone, open the menu) and choose Light, Dark or Match my device. Your choice is saved on this device.

Use Sign in at the top of any page on this site. If you forget your password, the sign-in page can email you a link to set a new one.
